My blog is moving…

21 Jul

…Over to Blogspot.

I love WordPress but I’ve found that most of the beauty blogs I read have blogs by blogspot, and it’s just a lot easier to follow them over there…

My new site is http://shannonlouisebeauty.blogspot.com/ , feel free to have a little nosey around if you like!

Much love ❤

TAG: Summer Besties

20 Jul

This was a tag that MacBarbie07 created a few months ago and I thought it would be really fun to do now that we’re about half-way through summer and I have a better idea of what I’ve been loving so far! The tag’s pretty simple, just say what your favourite summer beauty product is in each category! If you decide to do this tag please leave me a link, I’d love to see it!

Lip product

GOSH 134 Darling Lipstick – It’s the PERFECT nude for me, and if you’re super pale like I am you should check it out. It’s really creamy too so it doesn’t dry out my lips, and it’s one of those super-easy to apply lipsticks that you don’t even need a mirror to apply, which is great for when you’re on the go 🙂

Blush

My favourite blush for summer is definitely Benefit’s Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain – I love that it’s a liquid not a powder, so it doesn’t make me look really cakey (especially when I’m loaded up on face powder like I am in summer), and it literally lasts ALL DAY. It gives a nice natural flushed look without over-doing it.

Nail Polish

Nail polish… This is a tough one, because I’m always changing my nail colour ever couple of days… In summer I definitely love pastille shades, because they’re basically impossible to wear during winter and fall, but an actual specific colour? I guess I’d have to go with Barry M’s 306 Blueberry Ice Cream 🙂

Liquid face product

Okay, I’m going to cheat on this one. Obviously, it’s got to be foundation, because I’m a foundation girl at heart. But I change up my foundations so often that I really don’t have a favourite one for summer. So! I’m going to go for Benefits Moon Beam, which I’ve worn pretty much every day since I got it. I just pop a few dots on my cheek bones and blend them in with my ring finger for a really subtle sheen, sometimes topping it off with MAC’s Crystal Pink Skinfinish (from the Semi-precious collection) for a more obvious look. (Obvious, is that the right word to use? I don’t think it is, but I can’t think of the right one…)

Powder face product

Right, so during summer I use a pressed powder pretty much every day to set my foundation, but like the liquid face product I’m going to cheat… The MAC Skinfinish in Crystal Pink from the Semi-precious collection is by far my favourite powder face product purely because it has so many uses; I can use the outer-ring colour as a highlight, the inner colour as a blush/bronzer, or mix both of them together and dust lightly all-over the face for a healthy glow. I love it!

Hair product

I don’t really do anything different with my hair in the summer, so I don’t have any products in particular for this one… I guess I’ll say my heat protector (TRESemme Heat Defence), because I straighten my hair just as often in summer as I do in winter, but it apparently has a UV filter in it? So I guess that means it will protect my hair from the sun as well… That’s pretty cool!

Eye product

I use so many different eye-products it’s like torture to make me pick just one! But I guess I’ll have to pick my Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Sepia Ink, because on days when I really can’t be bothered I can just put a little of this on my top lid and waterline and I’m good to go! And they really aren’t kidding when they say ‘Long-Wear’ either…

Self-Tanner (or any tanning item)

I’m not much of a tanning girl, and mega-pale and proud of it! But just recently I’ve picked up the Garnier Summer Body Moisturising Lotion Sun-Kissed Look in Light to try out, and so far I love it! It says that’s it’s specially developed for lighter skin tones, and moisturises your skin while gently building a tan that works in harmony with your skin tone… Sounds good to me!

Fashion accessory

Accessory? I guess probably bracelets, the ones that come in packs and are kinda mixy-matchy; I love how cute they look 🙂

Clothing piece

I’m going to be boring and say leggings – I know, I know. But they’re really easy to chuck on with any top to keep you cool throughout the day, and they come in so many different colours, lengths and patterns… Need I go on?

MAC Colourizations Collection (Fall 2011)

11 Jul

So, I was Googling new MAC Collections out soon when I came across the Colourizations due to be released July 29th 2011 in the US and August 2011 Internationally. I can honestly say that this is the most excited that I’ve been about a MAC Collection, ever. Apart from the little mini’s that you get during Christmas of course.

This collection has combined 2 of my favourite things – eyeshadow duo’s and COLOUR! You’ll see what I mean in a sec, but each duo has 2 eyeshadows that at first glance just look like they clash completely, but once you think about it there are ways to make them not only work, but work well.

So before I bore you with my rambling I’ll just show you what I mean shall I?

Pro Palette Eyeshadow x2 (Pre-filled Duos) ($25.00 U.S. / $30.00 CDN)

 275 Medium angled shading brush ($24.50 U.S. / $29.50 CDN)

I’m not really too bothered about any of the liners, brushes or the mascara, but the duo’s for me are MUST-HAVES! The one’s I’m craving most are the Double Feature 3, 5 and 6. Eep I can’t wait! But I live in the UK so I’ll have to wait until August… Gives me time to save-up I guess 🙂

So tell me, are you guys as excited as I am? And if so, what are you most looking forward to getting?

Thanks for reading!

OOTD & NOTD – May 31st

31 May

Now I don’t normally do Outfit or Nail Of The Days, infact Ive never actually done one before. But when I painted my nails this morning the colour was just so gorgeous I couldn’t help but want to tell you guys! And I’m just about to go shopping with my friend (a haul in the next few days might be in order…) so I thought I’d just show you what Im wearing too. Nothing too fancy but I thought it was quite cute and simple so…

So my nails are Barry M Nail Paint in number 299 Racing Green, and this picture doesn’t do it justice at all. Its a beautiful deep green with a blue-ish shimmery undertone… I’m absolutely loving it!

Now for what I’m wearing – Sorry about the weird angle but I don’t have one of those full length mirrors in my house so I just had to do it like this.

Shirt – Next, I got it around December so I don’t really remember how much it was

Black Long-sleeve – Primark I think, but you can get them anywhere

Jeans – I just picked these up yesterday from Primark for £8 (what can I say, I’m a Primark girl…) and they’re the Super Skinnies. Normally their jeans have really odd fits and never really fit normal people (the legs are normally way too baggy being the problem I normally have), but I tried these on this morning and they fit PERFECTLY!

As for jewelry Im just wearing my TrollBeads bracelet (the Beverbrooks version on a Pandora) and nothing else. Like I said, simple and cute 🙂

I hope you guys like! Let me know if I should do more of these or not 🙂

April/May Favourites!

29 May

Okay, so I’m starting to get back into the whole blogging thing now that the bulk of my exams are over – I still have about 4 left so I won’t be posting everyday like I used to, but hopefully you should be able to expect 2 or 3 a week.

So, seeing as I never really posted my April Favourites I’ve decided that this will be products I’ve been loving for both April and May, so you’ll get twice as much stuff! Wahoo!

Okay, so let’s get cracking…

First up, same as March, is my favourite foundation – Bourjois Healthy Mix in shade number 51. I’ve explained why I love this quite a few times, so I won’t bore you with it again, but if you want to know more check out my review here; https://britsbeautyblog.wordpress.com/2011/03/28/review-bourjois-paris-healthy-mix-foundation/

Now, because this foundation has more of a satin finish and it’s starting to get warmer outside I seem to be setting my make up with a powder more often. I use the Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 001 Transparent, which I have re-purchased so many times it’s un real. I just buff it all over with my kabuki brush.

Now that summer is coming and I am as pale as anything I have started to replace blush with bronzer. I just picked up the Collection 2000 Shimmering Glow Powder in Sunkissed to try it out, as I’ve never really used bronzer before. It has quite a lot of shimmer in it but if you apply it softly it doesn’t show up to much. I can’t really call it a favourite yet as I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I’ve been wearing it a lot so I thought I would chuck it in here. I want to try the Bourjois Chocolate bronzer that everyone is talking about next because it has more of a matte finish.

Next up is a cute little eye shadow trio from MaxFactor in the shade 01. I’ve really been liking more neutral eyes for the past month or so and I’ve been using this trio pretty much every morning for school because it’s just so quick and easy and I don’t have to think about it – I use the lightest colour with a large shader brush all over the lid and under the brow bone, then mix the darker 2 colours and apply it into my crease with a fluffy brush and voila! It literally takes about 2 minutes, and then I top it off with some mascara and line my waterline.

For the days when I want a little more definition I absolutely ADORE the Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner in Sepia Ink – yes, brown eyeliner!! I’m normally a black-eyeliner-all-the-way kinda girl, but I found this buried in my make up stash and decided to give it a go – I’m in love! It’s brown so it gives a softer look to your eye, while still being dark enough to give definition if you’re more used to black. I’ve also been using it in my waterline too, it stays put all day and I love it!

For mascara, I’ve been using the No 7 Exquisite Curl most days because it helps to define my lashes and keep them curled all day (which is an achievement for me), which I HAVE to have if I’m not wearing any eyeliner on my top lashes. It also has a curved brush which I find makes it a lot easier to apply it on my bottom lashes, as well as my top ones.

As for my lips, I haven’t really been wearing anything on them apart from lip balm because they have been really chapped lately, and lipstick just makes them look even worse. I was using Maple Taffy from Lush most of the time but I (FINALLY!!) finished it, so I’ve changed it to Whip Stick by Lush as well – I can recommend them both for being moisturizing, (well, any Lush lip balm to be honest is amazing), although you can’t get Maple Taffy anymore because it was a Limited Edition product for Christmas.

Now, I hardly ever change up my skincare routine, but something that I’ve added to it recently is the Tea Tree Water Toner, after I cleanse/exfoliate and before I moisturise. I just spray it on my face a couple of times, leave it for a couple of minutes then dab off any excess with a dry, clean flannel. It’s really been closing up the pores on my chin and nose, which is one of the things that I really hate about my skin.

And that’s all! If you want a more in-depth review about any of the products I’ve mentioned just let me know and I’ll get right on it!

Project (Lush) 10 Pan!

3 May

Weeeeeey, it’s another Lush post! I feel like I’ve been doing a lot of these recently… Maybe not though… Hmm…

Anyway! As most of you probably know, the Project 10 Pan is when you make a vow not to buy any make-up/beauty products until you used up 10 that you already have (or 5 or 20, whatever your goal is…). So, I decided to do a Lush version! I know it’s been done before, and I’m not claiming to have made it up, but it seems like a pretty awesome idea so I’m going to give it a go!

I wanted to start a while ago, but with the Easter and Mother’s Day things out I thought I might as well wait until after… So here I am! There tends to be a lack of new products released by Lush between Easter and Halloween, so I figured this would be the best time to start for me!

I actually started this on May 1st, but I’m only getting around to posting it now… Sorry! Now, I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to do this in a month, so here are the things I hope to finish by then;

  1. Buffy Body Butter. I only had 1 use of this left and I finished it up last night (yay!), so not much to write about it… This is going to be easy 😉
  2. Cinders Bath Bomb. I still have about 5 of these left from Christmas, yikes! I want to use it before it gets to hot and I just feel totally stupid having a warm and cosy bath when it’s even warmer outside!
  3. Winter Bath. Again, one from Christmas… I have to stop hoarding Limited Edition items, it’s stupid! But again, I LOVE this bath bomb and hopefully I’ll be able to use it when it’s kind of cold outside so it feels like there’s a point to being in the bath…
  4. Pop In The Bath. Last bath item, I swear! This one makes more sense though, as it has more of a summery scent, and will remind me that spring is here! I have about 2 uses of this one left, so that’ll be all the baths I can have after the Christmas ones… (I only have time for 1 bath a week…)
  5. Snowglobe Soap. Another Christmas item! But this one smells  like lemons and grapefruit, so is perfect for the hot(ish) weather we’re getting at the moment 🙂
  6. Sugarbabe Sugar Scrub. Now that my Buffy has run out I’ll need another body exfoliator to replace it! I have 2 of these, and got them both for my birthday (March) of LAST YEAR! I only plan to finish one of then though…
  7. Therapy Massage Bar. Now, when I use these as a full-body lotion I get through them pretty fast, the only problem is… I never use them. But I’m going to back into the habit of greasing myself up after I get out of the shower so my skin looks beautiful for summer 😀
  8. Love Lettuce Fresh Face Mask. This goes out of date on the 8th anyway so I should probably get cracking and use it… So far I’ve used it twice and I’m really loving it! Let me know if you want a review 🙂
  9. The Soft Touch Body Butter. This was discontinued late last year and I bought 4 of them because I loved them so much, but because of that I somehow never use them… I only use it as a hand lotion so maybe if I use it for the whole of my body it’ll get used up faster…
  10. 100ml Daddy-O Shampoo. I never use this because the sea salt water and seaweed normally strip the hair colour from my hair, which I DON’T want. But seeing as I’m getting it re-dyed in a few weeks it seems reasonable to strip the colour out so the new colour can go in 🙂

So, 1 down and 9 to go! If you want to do this with me let me know! And any questions/reviews are welcome, just leave a comment 🙂 Bye!

Demi Lovato: Love Is Louder

24 Apr

Yes, Demi Lovato. I know that pretty much everyone and their mum’s are blogging about it at the moment, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents. Or pennies. Whatever.

So, for those of you that have been living under a rock for the past couple of days, Demi Lovato had her first interview post-treatment on Friday. You can find it on Youtube if ya missed it, just search for ‘Demi Lovato 20/20 Interview’ and it should come up.

She talks about her Eating Disorder, Bi-Polar Disorder and self-harm, as well as how it all stemmed from when she was bullied at school.

Now, I can (luckily) say that I’ve never been bullied or treated different, and I am so grateful for that. I have, however, always had trouble with my weight, always being the ‘chubby’ kid, and for the last 3 years I’ve suffered from an eating disorder and self-harm.

It’s not something I go into a lot, and no one in the ‘real’ world actually knows, not my best friend, family… No one.

But I just wanted to say how brave I think Demi is for coming forward and speaking about it, and how, someday, I hope I’ll be able to do the same.

If anyone has any questions about eating disorders or self-harm, or just wants someone to talk to, I’m always here 🙂

LUSH Starter Kit Series: Shower Gels & Jellies

22 Apr

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about my top Lush soaps (https://britsbeautyblog.wordpress.com/2011/04/05/lush-starter-kit-series-soap/), and said that I was going to make it a series of my favourite products from each category.

So here I am, back again, to talk about… Shower gels and jellies! I’ve decided to do these two together because Lush doesn’t actually have too big of a selection of these, so I’ve just mushed them together instead. Yay!

Of course, anybody that’s anybody knows about Snow Fairy shower gel, and yes, that has got to be my all-time favourite Lush shower gel, but it is limited edition, so I’m not going to include it in this post. Even though I already have. Oops!

Alrighty then, let’s get started!

Now, as I said in my soap post, I am quite a big citrus person. Like, I-suck-lemons-when-I’m-bored-because-I-like-the-taste-and-I’m-not-even-joking-you big. Yeah. So, obviously, my favourite shower gel (from the year-round ones, at least) is Happy Hippy. Yum! It’s not your typical lemon-orange citrus scent though – it’s so much better than that! The main scent you get from this is a sweet-yet-sour grapefruity type thing, and it’s gorgeous! It’s perfect for first thing in the morning, and is my ultimate wake-you-up kind of smell. It’s also one of the thickest shower gels they sell, so you need less of it then some of the others, and it lathers amazingly!

Second on my list is on here because it actually does something for the skin. Rub Rub Rub. Mmmmm… It smells like mimosa blossom (according to the website, I’m not too big on florals so I can’t say if that’s right or not…), but it’s not an over-powering flowery scent. It has the same scent as the Sakura bath bomb and 10 Cherry Tree Lane, if you’ve smelt those. Now, onto why I love this so much. It’s a shower scrub, not an actual gel (the name sort of gives it away a little bit…), so it’s like a 2-in-1 step! Get clean AND exfoliate at the same time! It has sea salt in it, so it’s similar to Ocean Salt, but it’s a lot softer and gently buffs instead of harshly scraps the skin. Hahaa!

Lastly, for all of you that want your sweet-sugar fix never fear! Now, Lush doesn’t have a sweet year-round shower gel, but… They do have a jelly that is – Sweetie Pie! Now, if you’ve never used a Shower Jelly, they can be a bit scary-looking and messy. But trust me, they’re not that bad! They best way to use them (in my opinion at least), is to cut them into small pieces (about 2cm cube should do it) before-hand with scissors, then when you’re in the shower simply ‘smush’ a piece into a lufa, lather it a little, and away you go! They’re so simple and fun to use, I absolutely love them! So, Sweetie Pie, as I said, has a yummy (sickly-to-some) sweet scent that vaguely resembles the smell of blackcurrants, and is perfect for those days when you just need an extra-sugary kick. It has the same scent as The Comforter Bubble Bar, one of their most famous products.

And that’s it! All of their Shower Gels and Jellies work amazingly though, o if you prefer the smell of a different one, by all means get that instead! I love the scent of all of them, these are just my top picks for anyone just starting out.

I hope you guys liked it! If you have any Lush-related requests for reviews or ‘Top Picks’ like this one, just ask!

Beauty Confidential – L’Oreal

20 Apr

I came across this website a few days and just HAD to tell you about it. When you sign up you fill in your profile (stating things like your eye, hair and skin colour), then you can go to the Get The Look tab, choose the look you want to achieve and the site automatically tells you not only the products to use, but also the SHADE to buy them in so they match up with your profile, AND shows you the step-by-step instructions on getting that particular look!

They add a new look each month, and also have reviews from customers, giveaways & competitions and news on any new products that have been released. You also have the chance to get free samples of new products to try out occasionally, which I think I so nice, like an extra little bonus for signing up!

If you want to check it out the website is; http://www.lorealparis.co.uk/beautyconfidential/

Purple Blush…

19 Apr

Let’s talk purple blush.

Now I’m no makeup artist, but I still consider myself to be vaguely educated in the whole makeup world, so when I saw that MAC’s new collection had a purple blush in it (https://britsbeautyblog.wordpress.com/2011/03/29/mac-quite-cute-collection/), my mind was officially boggled. I’d never heard or even thought about using purple as a blush, so I turned to my trusty friend, Google Images.

And I have to say; it does actually look quite good! I really like it, but I’m not really sure whether or not it would suit me… So I need your advice!

As I’ve said before, I’m really pale, and I have a pink/red undertone to my skin, does anyone know if I should try out purple blushes? Or would it completely fail on me?

I know this post is really short and sort of pointless, but I just wanted to know what other people’s opinions were on it. So, what do you think? Do you think it looks good, and if so, have you/would you try it out yourself?

Thanks for reading guys!
